Doris Lockley was a pioneer Welsh Wildlife artist of the 1930s.
Doris Lockley captured the wilderness and the wildlife of Skokholm Island off the southern coast of Wales.
Doris Lockley lived on the Island of Skokholm for several years with her husband, Ronald Lockley. Lockley, the famous Welsh ornithologist, leased the Island in 1935. Together they studied and documented the birds and ani, and lived there studying and documenting the behavior of birds and rabbits and other wildlife of the island.
Ann Lockley Mark, the daughter of Doris and Ronald, and Martin G. Lockley, half brother of Ann, have collected family photos and the artist's original photos to collaborate on this book.
The book contains more than 100 illustrations and historic photos, most previosuly unpublished.
The Island Artist is available in the UK through Friends of Skokholm.
